If you can’t determine what ails your vehicle, bring it to KHN Services. A manual transmission (also known as a manual gearbox; abbreviated as MT, and sometimes called a standard transmission in the US) is a multi-speed motor vehicle transmission system, where gear changes require the driver to manually select the gears by operating a gear stick and clutch (which is usually a foot pedal for cars, or a hand lever for motorcycles).

FAQ’S

WHAT IS A GEARBOX?

A gearbox is a mechanical component used widely across the automotive and manufacturing industries broadly defined as a set of integrated gears contained within a housing unit. The gearbox, when used in a vehicle, is used to adjust torque and speed between the load and engine, or driving force. The gearbox allows for the most efficient and effective vehicle performance across a variety of terrain and conditions at many speeds through its provision of a selection of gears. This selection generally consists of 5 or 6 forward gears, and a reverse gear.

A ‘broken’ gearbox can may be caused by many different factors, resulting in many different symptoms, including but not limited to atypical noises such as whining or grinding, the presence of a burning smell (caused by degraded transmission fluid), transmission fluid leaks, gear slips (caused by worn gears being unable to engage effectively), and the illumination of the gearbox warning light.
It is essential to deal with gearbox problems upon discovering the first indicator of an issue, as gearbox rebuilds and replacements can be costly in comparison to minimal repair work.
All Trans Autos’ gearbox specialists currently offer repairs, rebuilds, and maintenance services for both automatic and manual gearboxes. If your vehicle is subject to any of the above symptoms, book in using our online booking system today or contact one of our friendly team members for further advice regarding our gearbox services.

In British terminology, the term transmission refers to the entire drivetrain, including the clutch, gearbox, and final drive shafts. The gearbox itself is a device altering torque and speed in driving devices.
This is often confused with American terminology, in which the gearbox itself is often referred to as the transmission.

Slipping gears are often attributed to general wear and tear. When gears become worn, they tend to become rounded, meaning they cannot engage or link together effectively. This commonly leads to gear slippage and difficult transitions.
It is important to manage gearbox issues as soon as they are noticed to avoid high repair costs. All Trans Autos team of expert technicians are highly experienced in gearbox repair and replacement, meaning your vehicle is in safe hands when you book in with us. Contact us today for further advice and assistance regarding gearbox repair, or any of our other services.

Gearbox repair costs vary hugely depending on the work needed to restore the part to roadworthy condition. In some cases, a simple repair will suffice, whilst gearboxes subject to more serious wear or issues may require more extensive work, a rebuild, or even a replacement. In addition to this, gearbox type may further influence repair prices. For the above reasons, giving an average price for a gearbox repair is not entirely simple.
Here at All Trans Autos, our Bosch accredited team endeavour to conduct gearbox repairs to the highest standard, whilst keeping costs reasonable. We are experienced in the repair, rebuilding, and maintenance of both automatic and manual transmissions using parts of only the best quality. For a more accurate quote regarding gearbox repair, contact our team, or book your vehicle in for an inspection, during which our technicians will report any issues present within the gearbox or transmission system, and report accordingly.
